Average flight prices in Sept to Croatia?

Hello travelers.. I was in Croatia last year, and we were lucky enough to travel to Budapest and Croatia all on our miles. Next Sept we are planning a wedding in Croatia and I%26#39;m starting to look up average prices for flights from NYC..

Can anyone tell me what they paid if they visited recently? So far my searches are showing about $1050 USD avg price with 1 stop in Germany or London to Dubrovnik..

Any help would be appreciated!

Consider a direct flight between New York and London, then flying easyJet directly to Dubrovnik or Split. Your problem may be that you can%26#39;t fly into and out of the same London airport. That is, your flight from NYC may arrive at Heathrow but your easyJet flight may fly out of Gatwick or Luton. You could maybe switch airports on the way over and fly into/out of London the same day (give yourself a few hours to shuttle between airports), but plan a few days layover on the way back. Or if you are lucky (I%26#39;ve managed this before) find a direct flight to Gatwick from the US, so you don%26#39;t have to change airports.

If you book your easyJet flights early they may be insanely cheap - just remember, they charge for everything and have strict baggage weight requirements.. British Airways may offer competitive flights on the same routes.

Unfortunatelly, the regular lines are very expensive, especially during the winter. It%26#39;s easier to reach Croatia with some other european cities by low coast companies like Ryanair, Easyjet or Skyeurope that maintain the connections during the winter.

From NYC you can find some fantastic flights into Europe. Unfortunately if you are stuck flying Croatian Air, their prices are the most expensive. There are flights from London Gatwick to Dubrovnik on British Air and Easy Jet. And since September is hardly considered winter, you can rest assured that most of the inexpensive carriers are still offering some decent deals. Round trip from Dubrovnik to London on BA I paid only $200 for travel next month. If you do use London as your gateway, you may end up with an overnight in London both directions. The London flights do not make any decent connections to make the transatlantic flights possible. British Air also only allows one %26quot;free%26quot; checked piece of baggage and you will pay for any overage.

Start checking on www.kayak.com for NYC prices to London or Frankfurt or Paris. However I have found it%26#39;s much easier to use London and I do go back and forth every year for the Christmas holidays. The only difference is my home base is Dubrovnik and our prices do differ from those purchased in the US. NYC to London there%26#39;s always a very good deal, just keep checking often.

Thanks all. The cheapest airline I find with connection is Luthes - something.. I don%26#39;t remember the whole name :)

We%26#39;ll continue checking, I have set up some alerts through this site. We would be booking for next year, so I have time. Just need to alert the fam of sales so they can book their tixx. The layover one night in Gatwick is not going to be an option since our friends are only travelling for a week or so; they would waste a lot of time between that and everything else.

Do Ryanair, Easyjet or Skyeurope come up on major search engines? Or do I need to look for flights on their own websites respectively?

Thanks so much!

That would be Lufthansa, an airline based in Germany. You%26#39;d likely be connecting in Frankfurt, their home hub. I think they code share with Croatia Airlines, so that might be a decent way to do it, if the prices are good. I%26#39;d also check a direct round-trip to London and check easyJet separately. easyJet I know shows up on Kayak searches (Kayak is the main airline search engine I use). Not sure about the others. Unless the London route saves you a ton of money and/or you want to stop in London, I%26#39;d probably shoot for Lufthansa. Croatia Airlines is decent enough.

Anyway, you%26#39;ll find out by checking whether RyanAir or SkyEurope pop up in searches.

Living in the US, you could also consider Europe by Air, an outfit that sells passes for flights in Europe but only to non-Europeans. Passes are $99 each (plus you pay the taxes at the airport). I used one of these passes to fly from Split back to Paris a couple of weeks ago on Croatia Airlines. Booking the flight directly would have cost me about $320, but using Europe by Air I paid about $180 total (a bit of a hassle in my case because Croatia Airlines canceled my direct flight and re-booked me on a connection through Zagreb to Paris - but it all worked out). You can check for the best fares from NYC to London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Frankfurt...then see if you can find an available flight (probably Croatia Airlines) via Europe by Air. Note that Croatia Airlines flights to Split and Dubrovnik don%26#39;t go every day, so it may help to know which days of the week they fly between capitols. Europe by Air doesn%26#39;t really make sense unless you are booking a direct flight, since they charge $99 per flight segment.
