Croatia - Hvar Town Restaurants/Bar recommendations

I%26#39;m going to Hvar Town in Croatia in August with my boyfriend and have been lookng for ideas about nice places to eat and drink in the evenings.

Apart from the usual Marinero and Carpe Diem - which I%26#39;ve heard are overpriced and pretentious, has anyone got any gems even if they are a bit further out from the main town?

Thanks

i don%26#39;t know what does it mean %26quot;overpriced%26quot; for you.

marinero is smt like fish-fast-food and not a good restaurant.

of course if you want to eat good you have to pay for that otherwise you have %26quot;restaurants%26quot; like marinero :)

nice places to eat in hvar are: golden shell (zlatna skoljka), gariful, george%26#39;s garden (near the franciscan monastery), panorama (2 miles from hvar), macondo...

some cheaper: luna (next to %26quot;golden shell%26quot;), alviz...

i would like to recommend some good restaurants in stari grad: stori mlin %26amp; eremitaz

%26quot;jelsa%26quot; will tell you more about the restaurants in jelsa.

if you would like to eat the food prepared in the traditional way, in different ambient, i would recommend %26quot;stori komin%26quot; in abandoned village of malo grablje (6 km from hvar, 1 km from milna) and %26quot;humac%26quot; in abandoned village of humac cca 9 km from jelsa (east)

Just got back from Hvar and would recommend Alviz, near the bus station (they have nice garden at the back). They have %26#39;peka%26#39; - traditional way of cooking octopus or various meats under the %26#39;bell%26#39; covered with ash. I loved the octopus. They also have daily specials of traditional food like dalmatian pasticada or stuffed peppers. I tried pasticada and would recommend it. They also have good pizzas from their big wooden outdoor oven and cevapcici from the grill.

I also liked %26#39;Laporini%26#39; (good gorgonzola steak and green pepper steak as well as spaghetti with seafood or octopus salad) and %26#39;4 palme%26#39; for veal liver, squid, daily meny and pasta with shells.

Pastas, risotos, liver and grilled squid (always nicer grilled than fried) were around 60-80 kuna in all three restaurants, Steaks from 110-130, pasticada around 80, peka with octopus 200 for 2 people ( %26#39;peka%26#39; needs to be ordered day in advance, as it takes long time to cook).
