Things to do in Jelsa?

Hello!

We%26#39;re staying in Jelsa in early August (09) and I%26#39;m wondering what there is to do there? Any nightclubs or bars? Any lovely restaurants that people can recommened?

Also, how easy is it (and how do we do it) getting a bus to Hvar town? How much roughly would a taxi cost?

Thanks!

there are bars and restaurants, I can%26#39;t remember any clubs. You can get a bus quite easily to Hvar Town from the bus station and it will be quite cheap. Taxis will be pricey. You can do a day trip from Jelsa to Bol on Brac which is very lively. You can hire bicyles, you can visit Stari Grad and other places on buses as well.

Hi KimiHogs,

There%26#39;s a very nice square next to the water in Jelsa that is full of bars and cafes. Don%26#39;t know about nightclubs--I need my sleep before getting up at 5 a.m. to catch a !@#*%26amp; 6 a.m. ferry.

We had a wonderful meal at Konoba Turan sitting outside on their lovely terrace. The Turan fish platter for two was delicious.

Things to do depends on how active you are. You can walk or bike to Vrboska for lunch. You can even hike to Sv. Nikola, the highest point on Hvar Island, for excellent views. This may be too hot in August.

The bars I prefer in Jelsa are Villa Verde and Taboo.

How many days you will stay in Jelsa?

If you like to hike you could visit Tor - the watchtower from IV century BC, ruins of medieval town Galesnik. Just 9 km from Jelsa you will find Humac abandoned medieval village (there is one nice restaurant there if you would like to eat some food prepared in the traditional way), you can walk by the sea to Vrboska and visit St. Lawrence church (lots of paintnings from 16th and 17th century). Near Vrboska you have nice beaches.

Maybe you rent a scooter or car and drive to Stari Grad and visit one renaisance castle , dominican monastery (there is a museum with lots of findnings from greek and roman time, Tintoretto%26#39;s paintning...), the ruins of the ancient greek town of Pharos founded in 385 B.C. (Pharos-Pharia-Phar- Far-Hvar)

You could go to Bol (on island of Brac) for a daily excursion.

Or maybe you could go to one offroad tour to explore the hidden side of the island of Hvar

If you want more suggestions let me know ;)

We%26#39;re also off to Jelsa next week. How did you get on KimiHogs? Did you disciver any good places?

Or can anyone else recommend any other good restaurants, cafes or bars (not nightclubs!)?

Thanks!

Restaurants: Pelago and Nono,

Bars: Tabu and Villaverde

Pizza: Skojic in Vrboska village

Don%26#39;t miss the abbandoned village of Humac approx 9 km from Jelsa. There is one nice restaurant where they prepare food in traditional way under Peka (bell), but you have to order it at least 2-3 hours in advance...
