Night Train from Split to Zagreb

My wife and I will be in Split in the spring and will then be traveling to Zagreb by train.

Does anyone know about the night train between these two cities?

What are the accommodations’ on board and is there any food available?

We will be traveling on a first class Eurorail pass.

The train is slow and expensive and the rail cars are not terribly modern although there are private sleeping cars with 2-4 berths. Food is not available. I%26#39;m not sure your Eurailpass will work here, but it%26#39;s easy to to check online. Here%26#39;s where to get specific info:

Best bet is actually much cheaper, faster and more reliable to fly from Split to Zagreb via Croatian Airlines .Just 45 minutes, as low as $50 each. Their online booking system is excellent....put in the date you want to fly up pops all flights and all costs. Click on the one you want and print out your tickets. The airport here is quite a marvel--in and out very fast. And check in is just 30 minutes prior to the flight. But best of all, there is a Croatia Airlines modern bus that leaves right from the head of the Riva for $6 each and takes you there in comfort.

Bus is some 160-180 kuna/person, only 6 hours if you choose the direct one(stopping evtl. only in Zadar).

Nobody I know use train.

True, there are a lot of buses between the two cities and they are fast and modern. But every now and then there is some real disaster and what was a 5 hour ride becomes much longer....for the price and reliability, the 45 minute flight for $50 is the way to go.

Disasters ????

Bus disasters ??

How many?

When and which Croatian bus company??

Have I misunderstood something?

Well, perhaps I was a bit alarmist. But my wife was on the Split Zagreb bus earlier this week and just before the tunnel, in the middle of nowhere, the police stopped the bus for a %26quot;drug raid%26quot;. For more than an hour police searched in vain...the passengers, some like my wife who had to get to Zagreb and then to the airport to catch a flight were left stranded. We had to pay 200E to have a chartered car get her there to make the flight on time! Apparently this is NOT the first time this happens but obviously this information is kept quiet. So, if you absolutely MUST make a flight and have to use the bus, be sure to add a lot of extra time.

If I had to choose between the various options of public transport I would definitely go with the plane. The cost is low and the trip is fast.
