Hi. Considering a very well-priced 10-day Adriatic cruise in December. Don%26#39;t mind a little rain, and we are not beach people. Like off-season when fewer people, but don%26#39;t want to travel in a deluge. Average 4%26quot; of rain doesn%26#39;t sound bad, but wondered if anywone had done this or had experience this time of year? Thanks.

Please reconsider this cruise. December can be very wet and very windy in the Adriatic. This is not off season here, it%26#39;s no season. The vast majority of the restaurants and shops are closed for the winter hibernation. The sights have very limited hours. You%26#39;re correct there are no crowds, but there are very few locals also.
This year we are going to California for our Christmas holiday. Weather is much better there than here during that time of year. You should consider something during the month of October, that is the best time to visit the Dalmatian coast. Time of year is why this cruise is well priced. By the way, which cruise line is coming here as I%26#39;ve checked the port authority website and they show no ship arrivals in December, January or February.

Thanks so much. Probably will find another destination. The ship is owned and operated by O.A.T. (Overseas Adventure Travel), a very reputable group we have traveled with before, but this is their first time running the ship that time of year. It is a small ship with 25 cabins, which also sounded neat. By the way, there may be some rain in Southern California in December, too. If you have any questions about where to go, please let me know. Been here all my life (except when I%26#39;m traveling).

We too are considering this OAT trip (Jan. or Feb. for us); went to Africa last February with OAT, had a very good experience.
Concerned, as you are, regarding the weather and harsh conditions in the Adriatic. The other comment to you from the veteran of the area seemed to indicate that places literally close for the winter, which seems a bit improbable in 12 month urban environments.
What did you decide? Have you spoken to anyone who has taken this trip with OAT (or simply travelled this area) in the winter?
Like you, we%26#39;ve travelled to cold weather climates in winter and actually enjoyed the lower prices, fewqer tourists, etc. Ex- Amsterdam, New York City. We live in North Carolina, so we actually don%26#39;t care for terribly harsh weather....
Appreciate your return thoughts.....

If you are considering this trip only because of the price, then perhaps you should think twice. January and February are not the time to be cruising the Adriatic. That%26#39;s why the price is low because there is very little available to visit, shops and outdoor restaurants are closed down for the winter. They do not reopen until Easter and later. Please, please reconsider this area for that time of year.
A little rain is ok, but you want to be able to walk around while in port. Cold, wind and rain combined make for a miserable day. Think tropical and plan your Adriatic cruise for September or October of next year.

We decided against it. Since we are budgeting this year, we jumped on a chance to take a Med cruise early November that leaves from Barcelona and goes to Tunis, Malta, Siciliy, Rome, Genoa %26amp; Marseilles. Only been to Rome before. MSC. Very inexpensive for new ship. Large, but should be fun. got balcony cabin for $650. Hard to beat. Going to spend 10 days in Spain before. Will have to catch Adriatic another time. Research showed everyone thought it was the absolutely wrong time to go. Love OAT. Went to Tanzania with them a few years ago. Great job. Good luck with your travel planning.

thanks!
Can I get the website of this cruise from you?; I, like you, am not liking the weather issues in the Adriatic and might want to take an alternative trip like yours if the price is right for Jan or February.
hope you enjoy the cruise; we actually may meet up if we decide to do the same one!
Thanks again.

I%26#39;m a Brit living mostly in Croatia and I have to disagree a little with the previous poster. It won%26#39;t be warm but there may be some lovely sunny days. There may also be rain and a cold Bora wind from the north east. Aside from the weather everything is definitely not closed, especially in the major cities like Split, Dubrovnik, Zadar, most of Istria and plenty of other places. Yes, the beach resorts are closed but they are not the centre of Croatia%26#39;s culture and day to day living. You might get the odd deluge but would be very unlucky if it lasted long and, let%26#39;s face it, the climate everywhere is pretty unpredictable at the moment.

thank you, Croatia online in Split. I agree with your perspective, feel that the other local has some kind of overstated agenda against OAT for not working with travel agents, and the description of %26quot;everything closed for the winter%26quot; seemed disingenuous and embellished.
