is it a good idea to rent a small boat?

We are group of 4 people and we are planning to rent 5-7 mt. motorboat to go around for a day. I have visited some of the boat rental websites, and i noticed that they require a license to rent. Is it a strict rule there? because in where i am from nobody cares about a license when it comes to operating a 5-7 mt boat.

What do you think? is it a good idea to rent a boat? Are there good places\islands around the area where I can visit with a small boat?

Also, does anybody have a clue on how much would it cost for a day to rent a boat like that?

Hi,in Croatia you need to have navigation license for any kind of vessel, even for jet ski. Here is the link where you can see which foreign licenses are valid in Croatia - mmpi.hr/UserDocsImages/…2014.07..pdf

It is a great idea to rent a boat if possible, but I don%26#39;t think they will rent one to you without a license. There are lots of islands close to Dubrovnik and the best way to see the coast is by boat. If you can%26#39;t rent a boat to drive yourself, you may want to consider hiring a boat with a skipper.

Over here license is mandatory but means nothing.Roads or water - people are reckless.Without license they may give you tiny 4HP boat but anything faster/bigger is hard to get.

On average 4HP is around 40eur gas included.Bigger ones go for euro per HP - gas not included. And that is average.

Alternative is to board the tiny taxi boat that will show you around...drop you off...and (eventually) pick you up.

It sounds unreal that in a land of Baltic sea,1000 lakes and 20 million Nokias small boat license is not needed. What a self discipline and respect.Who needs government?

Lol Kefa!

No such licenses needed here in the US either and we do have big govt that is getting bigger :). I was piloting at 53 foot twin diesel yacht with simple training that was more for my comfort than any govt regulations/requirements. I guess, the taxes I paid on that %26quot;boat%26quot; kept the minions of the law happy.

On a more serious note, if you are below 21, you need some certification (online test only) to operate a PWC (Jet Ski). This is true at least in Florida.

Will be in DBV Sept 7-10. Looking forward to it.

Hi sourw :O)

When I was in Dubrovnik last September I was in a restaurant talking to an Australian couple who had hired a boat in this area - they did not have a license. The people who lent them the boat gave them basic training. I was told that it wasn%26#39;t really expensive and can assure you that there are plenty of great places to visit with a boat.

Enjoy
