THis is the first time I am booking accommodations and dealing directly with the owner. Usually I use a credit card to book accommodations and since I am dealing with an individual, it is understandable that there are no facilities to handle transactions using credit cards. The owner of the apartment I am trying to book asks that as a deposit, I would need to wire the equivalent of one nights deposit to her bank account. Is this the way it is usually done in booking an apartment in Old Town? FYI we are staying 5 nghts and I got the aparment from www.dubrovnik-apartments.com. I assume that this is an agency and owners pay a commission to have their apartments listed on-line.
Thanks

During the trips we have taken, there have been places that have had us wire money and it always went smoothly for us. We have also gotten to know people on our return trips that trust we are going to be there and pay them for our accommodations.
Should not be a problem.

This is a common thing for booking of private apartments - asking for deposit - not only here in Croatia but also worldwide unless you book through a tour company who would also ask for a deposit - surely if you have ever travelled before you must have come across this ??
As to dubrovnik apartmentsonline etc they do not get a commision - the owners of the apartments pay in advance to advertise on their site and have separate links to book so therefore no travel company etc involved
Most ask for 25% deposit so asking for one night is less
Have a good trip to Croatia !

We were asked to provide a deposit but my bank (Barclays) wanted £25 to send the equivalent of £40! We offered to post a cheque but in the event it probably wouldn%26#39;t have got there before us so the owner made a special exception.

%26quot;surely if you have ever travelled before you must have come across this ??%26quot;
A bit condescending Korcula.
Archiboi may have travelled more than you and I put together but may have always stayed in hotels.
Just because he hasn%26#39;t came across this problem doesn%26#39;t mean he%26#39;s not a traveller. Even if he had never travelled before we should offer help and advice not the %26quot;Surely if you have travelled%26quot; response.
Anyway the international banking system is a rip off. I too was charged £25 by LLoyds to transfer money to Cascais. The way Ryanair flights have come down it would have been cheaper flying out and giving him the cash myself.
I have booked my accommodation with dubrovnikapartmentsource who fortunately allow booking by credit card.
