Hello All,
Does anyone have experience with Hertz in Croatia and know if they require an international driver%26#39;s permit in order to pick up a car, versus just a US Driver%26#39;s License issued by Washington State in my case?
I have seen conflicting information on this, and someone at the Hertz 800 number indicated the international driver%26#39;s permit would be required.
Thanks.

I think that you could get along without one. My wife insisted that I get one. I am a AAA member and I went to their office in Chicago and for $15 they took my picture and I walked out with the license.

Even though I live here now, I still can drive with my California drivers license. However if you wish to be safe than sorry, go to AAA and spend the $15 for the license. It%26#39;s worth the small fee to have peace of mind.

We are back from Croatia and had a great trip. The update on the driver%26#39;s permit is that Hertz DID NOT REQUIRE the international driver%26#39;s permit to pick up the car, DESPTIE what they told me on the phone several times.
I didn%26#39;t have any contact with the police luckily, so I suppose there may have still been a need for it in the event I had had an accident or ticket.
Hertz did charge me for items that were quoted as inclusions in the original rate, so be careful of the local offices that try to get every penny out of tourists. I will have to see if corporate Hertz will refund something back.
If you go and are driving North to South check on the status of the A-1 highway. This is a brand new highway that was really fun to drive, but get a fast car to really enjoy it.
