recommendation on a day trip?

Hi:

My husband and I will be in Dubrovnik on Nov 7, 2009, for the day.

THis is likely to be the only time we will be there.

So we would really appreciate any suggestions on what to see. And how to get around. We like ancient ruins, architecture, history.

Any sightseeing city tours that we shouldn%26#39;t miss?

Thanks.

Since you have limited time in Dubrovnik, plan your time accordingly. The Dubrovnik tourist bureau has a very imformative website, use it to find the sights you want to visit. Dubrovnik is filled with many hidden gems and you can easily see some of them in one afternoon.

Walk the walls and do one of the city walks - the leaders meet by the big fountain near Pile Gate at 11 am I think (but check that out). Lots of different walks, recent history, ancient history etc.

Is the Pile Gate in the square, or somewhere central?

How do we get there from the cruise dock?

The Pile Gate is the main entrance to the Old Town. You can get there by taxi or public bus from the cruise ship terminal in Gruz.

I would walk the city walls, maybe take a short walking tour of the old town, and make sure to leave time to sit at a cafe on the Stradun for a coffee or a beer.

Great advice from CaliCourtney. That is how you should spend your day in Dubrovnik. Also maybe take a taxi up to Mt. Srd and get a great view of the Old Town from there!

Thank you, all, for excellent suggestions.

Now I don%26#39;t feel too intimidated by the whole thing.

Thanks again.

It is not mentioned here but you have an option of walking only half the walls instead of doing the entire circle (2 km)which takes about 1,5 hours depending on the crowds.
