Budapest to Zagreb

Is train the best option for travelling from Budapest to Zagreb?

What rail company offers this route?

Any idea of cost? Is there much difference between 1st and 2nd class on the train?

I live in Canada....should I be booking these tickets on line before I leave on my trip, or is it just as well to purchase at the station in Budapest (I will be taking this route Monday Oct 2)?

This route is part of the Venice to Budapest international route, on which several different companies will run trains.

Budapest to Zagreb will take around 5 hours, you can check times on the German railways website www.bahn.de which will display information in English.

You only need to buy tickets in advance if you want to reserve seats, you can buy tickets in the country and therefore not pay booking fees to an agent. Although it is usually recommended that you reserve seats the train will have a section for unreserved seating and if you are getting on at Budapest (at the start of the route) you should get a seat ok.

Do you know how much the train costs? I went to the DB BAHN website and found train from Zagreb to Budapest, but I can%26#39;t find information on its cost.

I am planning on doing that same trip.

I%26#39;m taking the train from Keleti Station in Budapest to Zagreb this coming May. It%26#39;s too early to get tickets right now because you now have to wait until 60 days before the departure date. I%26#39;ve taken the train in the past and the cost is approximately $138 U$D for 2nd class and $188 U$D for first class. I always buy my tickets before I go overseas.

I failed to mention that the cost of the train tickets from Budapest to Zagreb that I mentioned in my last message was for two (2) people!

What train are you going on? I%26#39;ve been doing a little more research and found: elvira.mav-start.hu/elvira.dll/xslms/uf where it says from Zagreb to Budapest for 29 euros or so. I wonder if I%26#39;m viewing this wrong.

I am planning on taking that trip in April.

Zagreb – Budapest one way is 230 kuna (approx 30 euros).

Hi,

was that cost you mentioned for a single journey only for two people? (ie not a return ticket)

|||

Zagreb-Budapest is: 217 kuna, return ticket, for one person (for some reason a return ticket is cheaper than a one way one)

Yea, does seem strange, but thanks anyway. Useful forum, I was able to check out most of the info and hope to make the trip in Oct. Am actually going to Lutomer in Slovenia and found that the train stops right at the end of the street I will be staying at! Thanks everyone for your help.
