korcula

We have been to a number of places in Croatia - Rovinj, Cavtat and Makarska and loved them all. Would like to try Korcula - is 2 weeks there too long? I was about to book the Marko Polo but recent posts suggest it%26#39;s not so good! Any advice or comments would be welcome. We like nice restaurants and bars at night - not bothered about noisy clubs and pleasant walks during the day. We are going in August - could you tell us about any places we could visit for the day? Thanks for your help1

Firstly the Marko Polo is the best hotel in Korcula as it is the only hotel that has been refurbished on the island. All the other hotels are %26quot;old%26quot; and badly need updating. If you do not want to stay there I would suggest that you book private accommodation instead of a hotel. I cannot reply to PMs (but can receive them) at the moment but if you send me a PM with your e-mail address I can give you details of some local Croatians I know who have private accommodation for rent - you can also look in this site under %26quot;private accommodation%26quot;

There are many day trips available from Korcula such as Hvar, Split, Mljet, Lastavo plus there is a boat trip that visits 6 small islands around Korcula. There are lots of good restaurants and bars/cafes with live music so I am sure you will find plenty to do and see in two weeks

There is also the local buses which take you from one end of the island to the other - it is easy to take these and see other smaller villages on the island. Also lots of small boats which you will find in the town go to smaller islands around Korcula either for a few hours or all day.

Have a good trip !

We stayed in the Marko Polo in Sep 2008 and had a great room on the top floor with two balcony%26#39;s, recliner easy chair, dressing room %26amp; shower room with twin basins. super AirCon. Buffet dining, but was better than average. place was spot less %26amp; really nice staff. I would not hesitate to go back. I would think 1 week would be enough. If you want a dining experience with a difference try %26#39;The Malta%26#39; close to the steps that take you up to the Chapel of St. Anthony on the outskirts of Korcula town [walkable from the Marko Polo]. You can generally just turn up for lunch but dinner you will require to book a few days in advance.

I loved Korcula, but in my opinion two full weeks might be a bit much. Maybe look at spending a week there and someplace else? From Korcula you could look into going to Mljet and possibly do some wine tasting along the Peljesac or something like that.

Just back from 8 days in Korcula. I think 2 weeks would be a bit long - what about a week in Korcula and a week in Dubrovnik?
