My partner and myself are planning a first time visit to Dalmatian coast. There is a flight from Istanbul to Zagreb on Sept. 20 and back from Zagrep to Istanbul on Oct. 2.
We can rent a car.
We would like to see the hightligts of the area-Montenegro-Mostar?
Can you help me with planning an itinerary please? Can you also suggest budget-middle hotels/BB/family stays in the places mentioned in your itinerary?
Thank you very much.

Generally, north to south: Zagreb – Istria – Plitvice national park – Dalmatia – Dubrovnik (Mostar / Montenegro) - Zagreb
Have a look on Croatia Airlines website for the flights Dubrovnik to Zagreb. It’s a long ride/drive and these flights are sometimes a cheap and much faster option.

12 days is a good amount of time! I do agree that you should either take a flight from Zagreb to Dubrovnik or vice versa on the way back. No need backtracking. I do like the idea of having a car, but it might not be needed in Dubrovnik itself because parking can be very difficult to find. I do think you should try to get out to the islands- I would suggest Korcula as a great destination. I also like the idea of a day trip or maybe even an overnight trip to Mostar. It was truly a great cultural experience for me. Have a great trip!

Just came back after spending 12 days in Croatia/Bosnia. What a wonderful trip! Croatia%26#39;s beauty took me by surprise. So CLEAN! The people so friendly. I loved this country.
Zagreb is great on the weekends. I really enjoyed Zadar in the evenings (musical sea organs are so relaxing), great atmosphere. Trogir was beautiful. Mostar is very cool, and of course Dubrovnik.
Have a great time. I did not read up on the history of the area before my arrival but now wish I had.
