We are a family of four, two adults and two teenagers (one disabled but mobile), arriving at zadar this saturday lunchtime for a week. I%26#39;ve searched online and the links on this site but can%26#39;t find anything suitable. My ideal would be a private villa with pool not too far from the airport (no way am i attempting to drive on the wrong side of the road!;)) Or an apartment close transport links.
I%26#39;ve never rented privately before, usually package holidays, so am unfamiliar with how those sites work. Most seem to want approx 300 euros left with them for a security deposit - if i had a spare 300 euros then i would have booked a nice hotel:)
Anyways, any help appreciated and any suggestions for things to do and see would be really nice.
Oh, how is the mozzie situation in zadar - they usually really really like our milkbottle Irish skin!

I sympathise; we went in May, and found it really tricky to find info about good value accommodation, as all the hotels on the Zadar mainland seem to cost upwards of 100-150 Euros a nite. We realised after we arrived that everyone rents apartments- at a quarter that price, and that the agencies are really quite reliable- although I would avoid any which want cash up front. Out of season you should be able to do walk-up, so why risk your cash or credit card?
If you don%26#39;t feel adventurous enough to explore the islands, I suggest you stay in Diklo- on the mainland and a short hop from both Zadar old town and the airport- less tha 20 quid taxi
Here%26#39;s a summary of a few months TA posts to save you searching back- thanks in great part to the 2 experts, Morlaque %26amp; Tamerlano. I%26#39;m keeping a note for our next trip; sorry it%26#39;s a bit jumbled.
http://www.zadarapartments.net/index.html an agency recommended by Morlaque
http://www.croatiaapartments.net/ an agency with many apartments in the region; some accessible only by boat (the boat tends to be included!)
www.apartmani-simicev.com near Zadar- a recommendation from another TA post %26#39;5 min to the sea side and 10minutes drive from the city%26#39;.
http://www.hotel-venera-zd.hr One of only one or two hotels in the old town; rough %26amp; basic but clean and ensuite and very cheap; half the price of other hotels, albeit dearer than rooms or apartments – and near bars, restaurants and ferries. Probably too rough for more than a 1 night stay as no balcony and no view.
Mira Rovis-Jakupovic,Zlataraska 323000,Zadar 385 98 9938033 – ‘good, clean rooms with bathroom and air conditioning on the market square in the old town’ (a TA post)
A local operator who seems to be trying hard to get on TA; apartments, tours, taxis, - Zadar %26amp; islands; http://www.sandra-zukve.com -email zukve.nin@gmail.com
Agency recommended by Tamerlano adriagate.com/en/…

bhoyGreenock says; We stayed in Apartment Miodrag in Borik near the beach and handy for Zadar town and nearby Diklo; the owner will pick you up at the airport. Apartments are a lot cheaper than hotels. e-mail info@apartmani-miodrag.com
Nic o the North recommends Karmen%26#39;s apartment in Zadar old town, booked via Agency JCZadar http://jczadar.googlepages.com/accomodations. As did lolabell1 – near Hotel Bastion in the centre €55/day with a 30% deposit. Karmen helped us with our bags and were very welcoming. We are a family of four, two adults a 13yr old and a 4yr old. Contact Jean Claude (also a hiking guide) email; jczadar@gmail.com,
And in Sali on the isle of Dugi Otok, the place I used; a 2 bedroom apartment with sea view 30-70 Euros depending on season- ring Marijana, on tel 00385 23 377 350. or go to the tourist agency on the harbour opposite where the ferry docks, who act for lots of rooms and apartments – tel 00385 23 377 208 or 38585 99 518 2929 www.adamo.hr or email info@adamo.hr

In addition to this FABULOUS post, I would just add that Venera hotel should be avoided since it is dorr to door to some of zadar%26#39;s loudest clubs/bars.
Another area to consider are Arbanasi and Borik. Both quite and quite pleasant but close (especially Arbanasi)
