The best way to get from London to Korcula next September

Planning ahead I know but I want to know the easiest way to travel independantly from London to Korcula.Never been to Croatia before and after researching I think this Island is the one for us.

Can anyone help ? eg Plane to which airport? Bus and ferry transfers?

I think the most convenient place to fly into would be Dubrovnik. Then you could hire a car, take a bus, or take a ferry there.

You can also fly to Split and catch the afternoon catamaran to korcula town. See http://www.korcula.net/grad/pitanja/krilo.htm

Yes that is a good idea...forgot about the Krilo line.

I got to Korcula via bus from Dubrovnik, about 3.5 hours (some of that spent on break or waiting for the short ferry over from Oberic), then took the Krilo to Split a few mornings later, less than a three hour ride. Krilo was definitely better than that bus ride. Both would leave in the afternoon and get you to Korcula at roughly the same time in the early evening. I%26#39;d probably pick a London flight to Split or Dubrovnik more based on the convenience of the flight or the price, but if both were identical fly to Split and take the Krilo

Then thats what we will do!How would we get from the airport to where the ferry leavers from and do we have to book the ferry in advance?

Croatia Airlines has buses that meet each of their flights at the airport and take you walking distance to the ferry terminal which is on the Riva in Split. You don%26#39;t need to fly Croatia Airlines to use the bus - you just get on and pay 30 kuna cash per person (so go to the ATM first at the airport!).

It takes about 30 minutes to get to Split from the airport. I had to go to the airport while I was in Split to resolve a ticket issue and took the city bus (16 Kuna) to the airport and the Croatia Airlines bus back to town. Even though the Croatia Airlines bus was faster, I had to wait an hour for the bus to depart! So did lots of other passengers who waited. Unfortunately, finding the city bus stop back to town could be challenging so I would just recommend showing up at the Croatia Airlines bus departure area and getting on the next one that leaves and be patient if you have extra time. You might check the schedule of arriving Croatia Airlines flights and see if one of their flights arrives near the same time as yours:

(Check this about a week before you leave, on the same day of week you will be arriving.)

As for the Krilo: not sure you can book it ahead of time. You can contact the company here and ask them:

I purchased my Krilo ticket the evening before departure from Korcula from a little kiosk there (the kiosk was only open an hour in the morning, an hour in the evening). They were not reserved tickets - just ripped from a book with a date stamped on them. So I don%26#39;t think buying them in advance helps you much, if you aren%26#39;t there far in advance. Best I think to plan to arrive several hours early in Split, relax on the Riva for a bit before your Krilo leaves. Maybe spend a few hours exploring Diocletian%26#39;s Palace.

I don%26#39;t know if the Krilo sells out or not (perhaps in peak season/weekends). I took it a Monday morning in October and a lot of locals seemed to be commuting from Korcula to Split for the week; Friday leaving Split would probably be the same folks. It was busy but not full but not much tourist traffic. Mid-week in late September may not be that bad, early September may be much busier.
