Anyone know a Croatian mumma who'd show us how to cook?

Hi all,

My travelling party of three would love to meet a normal Croatian man/woman/family/couple who would be kind and friendly enough to share a home-cooked meal with us??

I know it%26#39;s a bit of a random request - but what a great travelling experience! We all love food and cooking and are more than willing to get involved in the preparation, in fact, we%26#39;d prefer that!

We%26#39;re happy to pay for ingredients and wine and even a fee for having us in their home or whatever - we%26#39;d just prefer this to the touristy cooking classes on offer.

Any takers? Know anyone who knows anyone who knows anyone who loves a chat and meeting new people!?

We are: a journalist, a human resources officer and a doctor.

And similarly, does anyone know a truffle hunter who would be willing to take us out? We would prefer not to do an organised trip as it seems to be ludicrously expensive and not a very genuine experience.

Please, even the slightest help would be appreciated!

Best,

Jess

i could suggest contacting alan at secretdalmatia.com...he would only know about cooking classes and not sure about in a home. he can make miracles happen, and this is his business, he is great.

Have a look at this site, they have cooking classes and also organized truffle hunt:

lemandrac.com/default.asp?content_id=81

Nobody will answer here about truffle hunt, you must go there talk to somebody.

You could also look for a private accommodation offering half board, and ask in advance what are you interested in.

It will be hard to find a truffle hunter to take you on a tour for free but why do you think it is not a genuine experience? Croatia is known for genuine and authentic experiences! That is one thing I would not worry about!

Also, secretdalmatia.com or their side project culinary-croatia.com both specialize in unique and authentic experiences in food and cooking and they get rave reviews. But, that costs money: English speaking guide, transfers, food, time of the chef or a lady in the village...

Thank you all so much for your advice. It%26#39;s such a huge help - this is what I love about tripadvisor, people taking the time to share a bit of local knowledge.

We arrive Thursday morning, I have been working on an itinerary but will follow up on all of your advice and be sure to let you know how I go.

Among others, I did look into the lemandrac truffle hunting experience and it does sound amazing - also the reviews on here are very flattering - in fact it sounds perfect. Unfortunately at 990HRK (125 pounds or $AU230) it%26#39;s a little out of our price range though. We appreciate it%26#39;s going to be a pricey thing to do, but I figured maybe if I could find somewhere to just go on a hunt, rather than do a hunt AND have the four course meal with wine, it might be more in our price range.

Pero PLoče you are back again. Please, note that the question was put on Istria forum.

Scaut--- Do you ever convince anyone to come to Bacina?

|||

My husband and i went rooting for truffles with one man and his dogs in Buje last October. It was a great and unusual experience but was expensive for us at a cost of £80 each.

We are currently preparing to go back to Croatia in two weeks and really excited about our trip.Can%26#39;t wait to try truffles again in a nice restaurant.

Pero, the problem is not in Baćina, problem is in advertising, which is not allowed here. But you keep on, that%26#39;s why your posts will be removed again and again.

Btw, there are many places in Croatia where there is vicinity of sea, lakes and rivers, not only your village, which is in a very nice area.
