Apartment Antonia Old Town Dubvrovnik

This house/apartment is situated at the highest point in the Old Town. It takes around 150 steps to reach it. I was very disappointed. Whilst the bedrooms and linen were laundered, the downstairs i.e. sitting room and kitchenette was pretty grubby.

On arrival the washing up was still on the draining board. Pans etc. thrown in a bottom cupboard on the floor. Broken window in kitchen. Cupboards full of half used condiments and booze bottles. Drawers in kitchen and sitting room full of the owners personal stuff. It felt as if someone had just stepped out for a minute.

It was far smaller downstairs than the photo seems to show albeit the metric size was given. The shower curtain was black mould and the bin was full from the previous visitor.

The tv had only one english speaking channel - the news from russia today.

The many steps were fine for me as we are fit, but pretty hellish with a heavy suitcase.

In fairness to the owner, Mr. Antun was extremely obliging, helpful, fair and spoke english better than my croatian. He was very reliable and easy going man. He went out of his way to help us with our case going home, which was around 20 min trek to atlas bus stop and it was pouring heavy rain.

I dont want to be mean about a genuine person, I am just a clean freak spic and span sorta person so if you are not over hygenic and sensitive it is a very good base for the fit.

Was this Antonio.... not Antonia.

we stayed at the Antonio in 2007 and found it quite clean and well presented. I only ever dealt with the daughter and thought it good to be in the midst of the local Dubrovnici.

Yes the steps were a bit of a killer but only with the bags.....the price was OK and that was our initial reason for the enquiry.

Sorry for you experience with the lack of your rental being clean. So often a rental gets run down, but mold in the bathroom. Ugh. For this reason I strongly suggest than rather to book your own accommodations on the internet, use a reliable company located within the town or city your staying.

A problem here is there are no official standards for renting apartments. They owners must have an license but there are no checks on cleanliness or maintenance of any rental. FYI, once an owner puts up a website and has his photos he will never update or change anything. One could be looking at photos which are 5 to 6 years old, so again use a reliable rental firm and many up to date recommendations. Remember that one can pay the deposit with a credit card at some of the good rental firms. This protects you from being stuck in a bad experience.

Please do return to our lovely town, we have many clean and lovely apartments available.

Hvala
