Flights from USA to Dubrovnik or Split

We%26#39;re planning to fly to either Dubrovnik or Split in Sept, 2010. We%26#39;ll be flying on American Airlines into Europe. Can anyone recommend a European country we should fly into %26amp; then take the local Croatia airlines into either Split or Dubrovnik? Which European country has multiple flights into Croatia? Please assist %26amp; thank you. I%26#39;m planning my next year trip now.

Croatia Airlines has regular flights between their capitol city, Zagreb, and the major European cities. So you can get to Dubrovnik that way by connecting in Zagreb nearly every day. Some days they offer direct flights from London, Paris, Amsterdam, etc. to Dubrovnik or Split. Check Kayak different days to see. I%26#39;m supposed to be flying home (end of my trip) via Paris this week, but my convenient direct afternoon flight from Split to Paris was canceled - now I have go leave at 6:15am the same day and change in Zagreb!

You can also take a budget airline like easyJet between London and Dubrovnik or Split - that%26#39;s probably your best European connection option to Croatia besides Croatia Air. British Airways (AA partner still right?) also has direct flights to Dubrovnik from London I think some days; if you are flying AA, I%26#39;d probably try to fly BA instead of easyJet (which is cheap but charges you for everything - low bag weight limits, etc.).

Again, check Kayak for flights between various cities and Dubrovnik or Split - London giving you the most options.

In addition to AndrewHHH%26#39;s suggestions, you can fly to Dublin and take Aer Lingus to Dubrovnik or to Frankfurt and take Lufthansa. There are also other low-cost carriers flying to Dubrovnik from Barcelona, Madrid, and various cities in Norway. Perhaps you can find a cheap connection through one of these cities.

Last week we flew from London to Dubrovnik on British Air. I checked with Croatia Air and they were charging close to $450 from Heathrow to Dubrovnik. We decided to take British Air from London Gatwick Airport as it was considerably cheaper than flying out of Heathrow. Our fare came to about $240.00.
