Where to go

We are hoping to go to Croatia for the first time in June 2010. We like pepple beaches and clear water for swimming. A town with restaurants, bars and shops but not to busy.Places to see accessible by boat, car or bus.A hotel not too large prefferably within easy walking distance of facilities. Not much to ask but can anyone help. Thanks Margaret

Hi Margaret,

My husband and I just recently returned from a two week vacation in Croatia, and loved it. We spent 6 nights in Dubrovnik, 4 in Hvar and 3 nights in Trogir. All had lovely beaches, lots of cafes and shops, plenty of history and culture, and easy access to other towns by bus, car or scooter, and regular ferries to most islands and coastal towns. We booked our trip online through JayWay Travel, which I would definitely recommend. They custom-tailored our trip - arranged our flights, accommodations, all transfers, etc., and rather than staying at the big-box hotels, our choice of accommodations were the more spacious apartments, or quaint B%26amp;B%26#39;s - all lovely, and ideally located within walking distance to the centre of town. If you go to Hvar, you should take a taxi ferry to Cavtat (it%26#39;s lovely), and if you%26#39;re staying in Trogir, Ciovo is a great island to explore by motor scooter. And if you get a chance to sail through the Pakleni islands - well worth it!

Sherry I am a bit confused about this:

%26quot;If you go to Hvar, you should take a taxi ferry to Cavtat (it%26#39;s lovely)%26quot;

Can you explain?

Hello Sherri, Thank you for your reply and the advice on Croatia. We have just booked today with a company called Holiday Options, their brochure was one of the most comprehensive we found. We are doing exactly the opposite to you and flying to Split, staying on Brac for a week and then on to Tucepi for a week.We intend to hire a car for most of the holiday so will get around a bit and if we like it I hope we will visit another year and take your advice. Thak you once again and I will let you know how we get on. Happy travelling - Margaret

Hi Margaret,

We travelled with Holiday Options last year to Makarska (stayed in the Hotel Park), visited Tucepi and Brac on a day trips. Had a fantastic time, could not fault Holiday Options they were excellent from start to finish. They have a excellent selection of hotels and as they are a smaller company more specialised that the big tour operators such as Thomson’s. Loved Croatia so much we returned this year, stayed in Opatija in the north. Hope to return again next year. Have a fantastic time, hope your experience with Holiday Options is as good as mine.

Thank you so much for your reply. You have really re-asured us regarding Holiday Options. Never having travelled with them before we were wondering what they would be like. We usually travel with small specialist companies and it sounds as though they fit the bill. Having read your profile I%26#39;m sure we can trust your judgement as you seem to want the same things from a holiday that we do. June is a long way off but when we%26#39;ve been I%26#39;ll let you know how we went on.

Have you been to South Africa? We love it - brillian scenery - good food and wine and very friendly people. Try it before Mr Zuma spoils it.

Best Wishes Margaret

Hi Margaret,

I have not visited South Africa but I would love to visit one day. There are so many places to visit and not enough time!

We have booked three holidays already in the next 6 months, (Valencia later this month, followed by Dubai in March and Croatia, Cavtat in late June). Also thinking of a Christmas break to Madeira for a few days in December, will have to wait and see, the Easyjet sale is very tempting!

This year, we also booked a holiday to the Azores with Holiday Options. We booked the holiday eight months in advance and 3 weeks before departure we received a telephone call from Holiday Options saying the airline (SATA international) had cancelled the flight. It was not Holiday Options fault, the airline was to blame but HO seemed just as disappointed as us. They quickly refunded the full balance and we visited Croatia instead, our second visit. I have written quite a few trip reports this year on various destinations such as Fuerteventura, Sardinia and another one on Croatia. If you are interested in these, let me know and I will post the links.

Where are you staying in Brac %26amp; Tucepi? Is it your first visit to Croatia? Are you planning any trips / excursions?

Villa Adriatica, Supetar, on Brac %26amp; Vila Andrea in Tucepi. Both sound nice and have good reviews on Tripadvisor. I see you are going to Dubai. We went on our way to S.A. this year. 2 nights in the city at the Metropolitan going out and 2 nights on the beach at the Jebel Ali coming back. We did all the usual trips and did enjoy it but do take plenty of money with you it is VERY expensive. We went to middle of the road hotels and drank G%26amp;T%26#39;s instead of our usual wine(A bottle of bog standard Australian plonk was £39).It added about £800 to our S.A. trip so next year al though we are flying with Emirates, who are excellent, we are not staying over.

Cheers for now,

Margaret

Hi Margaret,

Both hotels look very nice, I am sure you will have a fantastic time. Look forward to your trip report. Thanks for the tips about Dubai, perhaps a visit to Madeira over Christmas is not a good idea after all, will need every penny for Dubai! Happy travelling!
