We got a brochure today on Croatia.
We have been to Cavtat twice and Korcula some years ago but this time are considering Rovinj.
We will probably book a hotel with Bed %26amp; Breakfast so any advice on restaurants in Rovinj would be appreciated.
We like to sample the local food and eat close to the sea if possible.
We also like to take a boat trip to other places - What sort of trips are possible.
We are aware that there is a ferry to Venice but are thinking of something more local.
Any eneral advice about any aspect of Rovinj would be appreciated.

We have just returned from one week in Rovinj and enjoyed it very much. We have also visited Cavtat but only to visit from Dubrovnik. Rovinj is a different resort with a beautiful old town and a nice harbour area lined with bars and restaurants. We found the food to be better here than Dubrovnik. There is a good choice of restaurants . We enjoyed Monte restaurant (not cheap) Santa Croce( our favourite) and we visited fish restaurants and pizza restaurants, all were very good. There are quite a few places overlooking the sea but you can%26#39;t usually book a table. There are a few bars where you can sit on the rocks on a cushion with a drink and watch the sun go down and plenty of bars overlooking the harbour. There are quite a few boat trips ranging from a few hours to all day trips but we did not go on any trips so I can%26#39;t recommend any. We went to Porec on the bus at 10 am but be aware that the return bus is 15 10 or 22 00 . We found a few hours was enough to see what we wanted and would not have wanted to stay all day. Taxis are quite expensive. We were staying in the Monte Mulini and on the few occasions we got a taxi to the old town it was £8 one way. Hope this helps - we would return to this area and found the people very friendly.

Hi,
The information is most helpful.
What a coincidence - We got a quote on Saturady for the Hotel Monte Mulini from Manchester and intend to ring tomorrow to book it.
Earlier this evening I downloaded some restaurant information from Tripadvisor which included the Croce and Monte - It%26#39;s always so helpful to have a recommend.
I also saw the other day a very good posting about the Monte Mulini hotel and noticed it was from Formby.
We are not far away from you - Billinge Near Wigan.
Regards,
Keith

Hi - That was my posting ! The hotel was quiet when we visited and we were the only people from England but it was not a problem because everyone spoke English. There were about 20 tables needed each morning for breakfast and not rushing for a sun bed made it relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Is your flight with Thomson ? - if you are not hiring a car you can book a coach transfer for £15 which will drop you at the Eden which is next door otherwise the taxi is 100 euros return. The coach driver was good enough to drop us off at the hotel when we arrived but we were collected from the Eden.

Firstly Rovinj is a great holiday choice.
The restaurants around the harbour are all pretty good.
There is a good one whose name escapes me which is in a tiny square just 50 yards inside the old town from the main entrance.
Pizza in Rovinj is terrific and also local as the population on the region speak not only Croatian but Italian.Rovinj is also called Rovigno.
Boat trips are limited;
Limski Canal which is great fun especially if you like oysters.
A regular ferry service to Red Island which has a decent pebbly beach and also a naturist island linked to it by a causeway.
Sunset cruise around the local seas.
Pula is worth going to see but just get the bus, they are both regular and cheap.
Porec is ok for a few hours but the but times aren%26#39;t too brilliant.
Have a great time!

Hi pinewoods.
The company we got the brochure from is Hidden Croatia who are Abta/Atol Bonded.
I tried various permutations on the internet and am very happy with the quote from Hidden Croatia.
We were originally interested in going to the island of Brac but in looking through the Brochure , Rovinj looked even better.
On the quote the flights are British Midland and a transfer is included in the holiday price.

Thanks Tynecastle.
The information is very helpful.
All being well we are hoping to book later today subject o availability.

Keith.

Hi KeithLancashire
Just had a peep online at Hidden Croatia - Their prices are fair. The price the hotel is quoting is far too high and I was worried you were going to pay these prices because it is not worth that rate. Hope you have a great time.

Hi pinewoods,
Thanks - I am very happy with Hidden Croatia deal.
I did put the dates through Trip Advisor and all the hotel booking sites were coming up with prices for just the hotel greater than and in some cases far greater than the Hidden Croatia price which includes decent flights from Manchester and transfer to %26amp; from the hotel.
whilst I am on - a minor point about travel money - rather than taking local currency we tend to use a credit card or debit card ( with no foreign charges )- Do you know whether the local restaurants / shops accept Visa credit/debit cards.
Regards,
Keith
